KCAA Kids Day 2024

On May 5, the Korean Canadian Adoptee Association (KCAA) and the Korean Canadian Cultural Association (KCCA) held a Children’s Day celebration and charity bazaar at the KCCA Hall .

The Korean Canadian Adoptee Association (KCAA) is a group of Canadian families who have adopted Korean children. They organized the group in the late 1990s and meet every Lunar New Year and Chuseok to share stories and eat Korean food. This is the first time the group has held a separate gathering on Children’s Day in Korea.

The event, which was sponsored by the Ontario Korean School Association and the Toronto Korean Daily, was attended by more than 150 people and included programs for children and parents, such as a Korean cooking class and paper airplane folding, according to the association.

The Korean cooking class made three dishes: japchae, kimbap, and kimchi. After the cooking class, they had dinner together with salad, sweet and sour pork, and bulgogi prepared by the KCAA. A bazaar was held at one side of the venue. There was also a sobok dance performance by the Raon Children’s Korean Dance Troupe.

Rev. David ManHong Kim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the bilateral association, explained to the attendees that Children’s Day in Korea was established in 1923 at the initiative of Mr. Bang Jeong-hwan. “We must work together as a community to ensure that children grow up with warmth and love,” said Tae Han Kwon, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Korea in Toronto.

Director Kim Myung Sook Kim, who organized the event, presented the bilateral funds raised to the Korean delegation that will visit Korea in June.
